Marcus Lewis is the Head Football Coach at Varina High School and a proud product of the Varina community. A former Blue Devil standout and Varina Hall of Fame inductee, Lewis played in two state championship games as a player and has dedicated his career to building on the legacy he helped create.
As a player, Lewis was a dominant linebacker known for his toughness and leadership. He earned All-State honors in both his junior and senior years, was named Defensive Player of the Year as a junior, and received All-Metro recognition in both seasons. His impact started early with All-District honors as a sophomore. His playing career set the foundation for the championship mindset he now instills in his players.
Lewis began coaching at Varina in 2008 as the linebackers and special teams coach. In 2015, he was promoted to Defensive Coordinator, where he helped shape one of the region’s most physical and disciplined defenses. His leadership and ability to develop talent earned him the respect of players, coaches, and the broader community.
In 2020, Lewis was named Head Coach of the Blue Devils. Just a year later, in 2021, he led Varina to its first-ever state championship, a historic achievement for the program and a defining moment in his coaching career.
Known for his passion, discipline, and deep connection to the school, Coach Lewis is more than just a coach he’s a mentor and role model. He emphasizes accountability, academics, and character development, pushing his players to succeed not just on the field, but in life.
With deep roots in the community and a legacy as both a player and coach, Marcus Lewis continues to elevate the standard of excellence at Varina High School.
